Kornacki: Leyland likely safe for 2009 season
by The Grand Rapids Press
Thursday October 02, 2008, 10:30 AM
Tigers beat writer Steve Kornacki joined Bill Simonson on "The Huge Show" on Wednesday to talk about Detroit manager Jim Leyland not receiving a contract extension.
"If it festers, (the Tigers) have the right to do anything they want," Kornacki said about the possibility of Leyland not returning next year. "A lot of times things happen and there are some feelings that just aren't good feelings at the time. But they move on."
Listen to the full interview below:
If the Tigers begin '09 with another 0-7 start, color Leyland GONE!!
Vin,
Who do you propose replaces him? I don't know about you, but I've heard a lot about who needs to get thrown overboard, but a LOT less about who needs to be brought in.
I think sparky leland got what he earned nothing,
he made a lot of dumb decicions, one more yr for him is ok but no ext.

Replace Leland with who you ask?
Why just not anyone with a pair of working eyes and a mustache?
Get rid of the arrogant blowhard now!
Larry Parrish, the team he managed in the 90's wasn't a real chance. Has done a great job with the Mud Hens.
KIrk Gibson would be great as the next
Tigers manager.
Kirk has done a great job as Asst. Manager,
Bench Coach, Base Running Coach and
general Mentor and Motivator
to the great young Diamondbacks talent.
Kirk also has the veterans respect
especially since the team plays
Gibson's "home run shots heard
around the world" in the
'84 and '88 Tigers and Dodgers
World Series triumphs
on their scoreboard that
is truly impressive to
veterans and rookies alike.
Gibson was hired by former
Tigers teammate and D-Backs
Manager Bob Melvin a former Tigers
Catcher who has excelled as
D-Backs Manager.
Gibson has been quoted in press
that he would like his shot
at managing in the Big Leagues
someday.
Bob Melvin who
works with Gibby on a daily
basis says he would make a
great manager.
Gibby would light a fire under
this Tigers team and veterans
would not cross this former
hard tackling football star
from MSU or they would get
more than they could handle.
FIVE MINUTES OF MY LIFE I'LL NEVER GET BACK! That was a useless interview. Please don't repeat this hollow analysis again in the off-season. Thank you.
ANYBODY BUT GIBSON: Communication skills..0...Will need to revamp the dressing room, make the doorways wider, for the head...Seen this guy in action, great on the field...off?..NO WAY.
