Saginaw Valley State University coach Jim Collins was not contradicting himself when he said his Cardinals played a complete game on Saturday -- except for the fourth quarter.
SVSU dominated visiting Tiffin University at Wickes Memorial Stadium on offense, defense and special teams, yet let down long enough for the Dragons to score a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns in the Cardinals' 33-14 victory.

SARNIA, Ontario -- The Saginaw Spirit were 0-for Sarnia last season, falling all four times they traveled to the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre.
What a difference a year makes.
Saginaw on its second visit to Sarnia this season left Saturday night with a convincing 5-2 victory over the Sting, scoring three, third-period goals, giving the Spirit their second win in Sarnia in two tries.

Midland Dow has been going to the boys state meet in the even years lately and Saturday's second-place finish at the Division 2 regional at the Midland Community Tennis Center has the Chargers back at states.
East Lansing won the regional with 28 points while Dow finished second at 23. Okemos also qualified with a third-place score of 18.

MIDLAND -- Northwood surrendered 586 yards of total offense and trailed by as much as 30 points before completing a 43-24 loss to visiting Ashland here Saturday.
NU trailed 20-0 before getting its first points on a Torris Childs 7-yard run in the second quarter. The Timberwolves cut the deficit to 27-10 on Pat Sijan's 26-yard field goal with 27 seconds left in the first half.

College footballs weren't the only pigskins put into the air Saturday. Youngsters from the Valley Youth Football League went about their paces in a series of eighth grade tackle football crossover games at Arthur Hill Memorial Stadium.
Teams from the North Division -- St. Thomas, St. Stephen, Thompson, Ricker, Central and Webber middle schools -- played host to teams from the South Division, comprised of schools from the Flint region.
Alma College stuffed on the ground, loses 45-20 to Trine University in Angola, Ind.

Matt Brown's 50-yard touchdown reception from Mackenzie McGrady and Travis Martin's 15-yard interception return for touchdown had Alma up 14-7 after one quarter, but it was all Trine University and it's ground game after that. Trine won the MIAA contest, 45-20.

CMU's Brunner turns backup experience into NCAA blog experience

He's moved on to "What's next?" as Central Michigan University's backup quarterback.
Brunner will prepare for Saturday's game against Temple just as he has all season, getting ready just in case Dan LeFevour gets hurt.
That is, after all, how LeFevour became a starter.
