Detroit mayor's lawyer says she's losing witnesses

    by The Associated Press
    Thursday August 28, 2008, 10:50 AM

The Detroit City Council says the mayor misled it into approving an $8.4 million settlement with fired police officers.

DETROIT (AP) -- Three lawyers are refusing to testify next week at a removal hearing for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

Kilpatrick's attorney says it's a "serious if not fatal blow" to the mayor's defense. Sharon McPhail is urging Governor Jennifer Granholm to seek subpoena power, delay the hearing or press the witnesses to appear.

McPhail says lawyers Sam McCargo, Wilson Copeland and John Johnson are refusing to appear.

Granholm will hold a hearing Wednesday that could lead to Kilpatrick's removal from office.

McCargo and Copeland had roles in that case. McCargo says his testimony in other forums already is on the public record.

The hip hop mayor of deROIT doesn't have to worry about our weak lady gov. She does not have the strength to do the right thing.

Dem's have run our great state to ruin. If they were not so self serving they would be embarrassed.

Our governor is a jellyfish...I will give you that chevy. Hard to believe that the democrat party wouldn't step in and pay him to go away soon. They must be scared to death that this thing will string out to November...if it does it might be the difference between Michigan going to McCain or Obama.

Someone is going to get paid off by the DNC...either Kwame or Jennifer. This thing will come to an end soon....watch and see. Hillary was bought off (20 million dollar speach at the convention).

If lawyers don't want to be associated with KK then he only has the used car salesmen to rely on. They will run the other way too because he is broke and soon to be in jail.
