"How come no one has tried to help this woman? She and her son are living in their car. Something is wrong with this picture. I really feel bad for the animals, especially the cats (which had to be euthanized), but at least they're not in that horrible condition any more. ... I can't believe the way people treat their pets. If you can't afford to take proper care of your pets, then find a good home for them, or better yet, don't get a pet in the first place."

Isn't there a guy by the name of 'Atom' I can call at the EPA? Forget it, I will make my family a nice meal of 'fission' chips. Boy, I hope that I am not construed as an 'out there' type of 'reactor' to this news."

Regarding an article about the arrest in Northern Michigan of long-time fugitive Carol Hart, who escaped from prison in 1970 while serving time for a crime related to a Flint area murder:
"Hopefully, the judge will make her complete all 25 years of her sentence. Just because she apparently didn't get into real trouble again, doesn't negate her need to face justice for what she did in the 1960s. I feel no sympathy for her."
— Posted by Flintman2
"These ladies (Hart and Susan LeFevre, another long-time Michigan fugitive who was arrested in April), I believe, should be released. ... A cold-hearted criminal would have continued to live the life of crime and not just suddenly decide to change their lives."

Halloween photo disturbing; Mayor Don Williamson recall; John Tomlinson and other topics interest Flint Journal readers

Here's The Flint Journal Talk Back items for Wednesday, April 23, 2008: (Give us your view on these opinions in the comments area below.)
Lawrence Skinner (from left), 8; Antonio Skinner, 6; and Garia Turner, 6, flee a haunted house at Mott Community College on Friday (Oct. 24, 2008) in Flint. Approximately 1,500 people attended the Halloween event, which featured costume contests, storytelling, bounce houses and dancing HALLOWEEN HORROR: I was very disturbed by the picture of the children running out of the haunted house that was on the front page of The Flint Journal on Oct. 25. They were two children, ages 6 and 8. I am being increasingly disturbed by the level of "entertainment" we are subjecting small children to at this time of year. No longer is Halloween about fun and candy and trick-or-treating, but about how horrible we can make the decorating or how gruesome we can make haunted houses. Don't you realize what this does to young children when they are exposed to such horrible images at such a young age?

Jamila Stone is a freshman at University of Michigan - Flint living in the First Street Residence Halls. Stone who is from Washington DC can't believe the economy in Flint. She has been looking for a job and also is surprised that not many people walk much around here. She walked everywhere back home and describes walking to her grandmas house as a simliar distance from downtown to the Genesee Valley Mall.
"I am glad the DDA provides some security downtown. Hopefully, the next mayor will be able to work with others and will step up to the plate and aid in improving the environment. I would like to see UM-Flint add 300 (rooms) every few years."
